Phonics Rhythm and Rhyming Activities

Developing our awareness of rhythm and rhyme

The Phonics Play website is available to access free at home at the moment by putting in the user name march20 and the password home.  From the menu on your phone if you click on the + next to resources and click phase 1 there are some phonics games the children can play.  'Sound Starters', 'Welcome to the Zoo', 'Hickory Dickory Dock' and 'Cake Bake' are linked to aspects we have covered so far.

The Three Little Pigs

Listening to lots of different rhyming stories and singing lots of songs and rhymes will help to develop a child's awareness of rhyme.  Repeating those songs and rhymes should be encouraged and really helps to build familiarity and confidence when talking about the words and the story.  There are lots of different skills we can develop as the children learn traditional tales by heart, starting with retelling the story from memory using a book, puppets or pictures.  I have added a super stories section onto the Nursery class activity pages with suggested activities you can complete with the different stories.
