Letter to families

Friday 15th May

Dear parents/carers families and children

I hope you are well.

As you will probably be aware, earlier this week the government published guidance about schools planning to welcome more children back, starting with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.

The guidance for this to begin is as soon as it is safe, but this is only if certain conditions are met (e.g. concerning health data and the current “R” value). The government will be reviewing the data and will also be issuing schools with further guidance.

To date, as a school we have been open to vulnerable children and key worker children. We have been providing home learning and keeping contact with our families and children.  I would like to thank our staff who have been working extremely hard during this time.  Every team across the school has been supporting our efforts to do all we can in response to the COVID 19 situation.  In addition, you as parents and carers have been supporting home learning, following the government guidelines along with managing working from home.  The community of Potters Green has been quite incredible so ‘Thank you’.

We appreciate you will have lots of questions and concerns.  We are working on this as quickly as we can to put the best possible plans in place and to provide you with the information you need.  Please can we ask you to be patient with us until we can give you more information.

First and foremost, we are aware that our staff and families may have experienced illness, sadness, and possibly loss.  We want to ensure that well being and mental health are a high priority for you as we plan to return and re-open our school. There will feelings of anxiety and relief coupled with nervousness and concerns around safety.

At this time, we are working very hard, with the Local Authority, to plan how we might be able to follow this guidance to welcome back more children, whilst ensuring safety is the top priority.

We will be sending another letter soon, asking you to let us know if you are likely to take up an offer of a place for your child in school.  Whilst we know your response can only be based on the information we will be able to provide at this point, it will be a really helpful first step for us with our planning.

Thank you so much for your continued support and understanding, it is very much appreciated.

Please continue to stay safe and keep well.

Mrs Newman and Mrs Deery
